The Boston Globe article, “Their Words, Unleashed by Wiki”, describes use of wikis by sixth
graders at the Thurston Middle School in Massachusetts. Veteran teacher Neil Kulick
is using the tech tool to turn his students on to writing. They post their work
on a collaborative Website, make comments to help others, and revise in a group
setting. Kulick believes that posting their work and working with others gives
students the audience they need for their writing. They are no longer writing just
for themselves. As Kulick’s students
“hear” each other, it is like a “symphony”. Kulick also says that working on
the wiki helps students with class participation and calls it an “equalizer.”
What are his students so excited about? Shakespeare and poetry. Nice!
