About 700 teams from Middle and High Schools throughout the United States and the Virgin Islands will compete in the 2012 Team Rocketry Challenge. The rockets, loaded with two eggs, must travel to 800 feet and back in a 34 to 47 second flight. The eggs cannot be cracked when they return to the ground. From this competition, 100 teams will advance to the finals where they will vie for up to $60,000 in scholarships and prizes, plus participate in NASA’s Student Launch Initiative. The winning team will receive funding from Raytheon to represent the U.S. in the international fly-off against the United Kingdom and France. Currently, the U.S. holds the title. If you are interested in having your students compete in next year’s challenge, watch the TARC site for rules for the 2013 competition. Entries this year were due by November of the year previous to the competition.
