When your students are learning to read, there are core reading skills that some master quickly and others need lots more review and practice. It's not easy to give all your students the attention they need with phonics, vocabulary and other necessary reading skills. Califone, the company with all those wonderful durable headphones, media players, and learning centers, now offers a tough little handheld player and recorder -AV Tutor Fundamental Center - that young students will enjoy. The Tutor can be used on its own or with attached headphones. Students see and hear the words in the program, and they can record answers. This lets students compare their responses to the sounds on the Tutor. As one elementary school principal commented, "This is not only for learning reading skills, it can be used to help children with speech difficulties and those for whom English is a second language." Students just pop in a cartridge, and Tutor goes to work. At this time available cartridges include: Readiness, Phonics, Basic Vocabulary, Picture Words, Everyday Words, Survival Words, and Play Ball (story, game, quiz and lesson). The cost of the Tutor is about $185. Cartridges cost $30 each.
