On May 28, 2008, students and teachers from schools in Brooklyn and Long Island had the unique opportunity to hear former Senator John Edwards and former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani have a conversation about their recent experiences as candidates for President and the upcoming election in November. Tim Russert, host of NBC's Meet the Press, moderated the conversation at Radio City Music Hall as part of "The Minds that Move the World" speaker series.
Senator Edwards and Mayor Giuliani discussed a wide range of issues including the environment, the Iraq War and current presidential politics. There were several occasions when they became very passionate about their obviously differing points of view and they also were making clear the differences between the candidates that they have publicly endorsed - Sen. John McCain and Sen. Barak Obama. There were also very relaxed moments and Tim Russert used his position to inject humor and also reflection on their upbringing and moral views to enhance the conversation. There was some audience interruption - which seemed to surprise a lot of people - but the conversation continued and it was clear to everyone that the upcoming election is going to be very interesting and vocal!
For all students and teachers that attended, please share your comments, thoughts and impressions.
