Verizon has a slogan “new every two” when it comes to cell phones and unfortunately that seems to describe the average person’s consumption/lust timeline for a new phone, camera, and other new technology. And what about recycling? It is hard to find places to do that even for the most committed recycler. So what are we to do? That’s the question that New York Times columnist David Pogue posed to his Twitter followers and the answers are interesting but probably mean more government involvement. In the meantime you might try the Best Buy program and Radio Shack. Or look into Web sites like Gazelle.com, the largest “recommerce” site. Gazelle pays shipping both ways (even sends you a box), pays you for your old electronics, then resells it on eBay or recycles it.
Also recommended are Freecycle.org (you give away your gear), Cellphonesforsoldiers.com and 911cellphonebank.org (provides old phones to victim services organizations for emergency use).
