Thinking about donating an old cellphone but you’d like to
wipe of it personal information before you do? These days you can do that right
away on your smartphone (although it may not be obvious how to do it so read
on), but older and less “smart” phones may be more of an issue. Fortunately a
well respected phone-recycling firm called Recellular has a database of
procedures to wipe clean cellphones at http://recellular.com/recycling/data_eraser.
Choose the make and model of your phone
from that page's drop-down menus, click the "Download Instructions"
link, and type in your name, e-mail address and wireless carrier on the next
page to have the instructions e-mailed to you. If you don’t see your particular
phone listed you can email them from that page and they will research the
instructions for you. Whew!
