More than half of United Kingdom social media users say they prefer the version of themselves they project via social networks to the person they actually are, according to an Intel study, with 53% saying they want to be just like their online “alter ego.” Women are more likely to carefully select the flattering photos of themselves that they post, researchers found, while men are more likely to construct social identities based around intelligence or outrageous behavior. 91% of respondents also complained about people oversharing online and said that there are some topics that should not be discussed online. 89% also thought parents need to teach their children better online etiquette.
