The Associated Press
and MTV recently joined together to do a
poll on sexting - - sharing sexually explicit photos, videos and chat by
cell phone or online - and the results ain’t pretty. Turns out of the 14 to 24
year olds surveyed nearly 30% said they had been involved in some kind of sexting.
That is somewhat surprising as most everyone has a tale of the rather grim
consequences – including felony charges in some states for sending nude
pictures – and suicide when the pictures got passed on to unintended people.
Some experts say that is due to the invincibility factor that some young people
feel – “I won’t get caught, it could never happen to me.”
Another sad statistic
from the poll is that 50% of those surveyed also said they had been the targets
of digital bullying. One positive note is why the survey was taken in the first
place. It was part of an MTV campaign, "A Thin Line," aiming to stop
the spread of digital abuse.
