Google ran a five-week camp program for kids called CAPE (Computer And Programming Experience) in five locations around the country this summer. The program started with kids learning to do animations, demonstrated doing apps for mobile phones through the Android app inventor, then progressed through robotics and learning how to make the robots move through coding. The campers, all going into ninth grade, are some of the brightest kids around. They had to be nominated by their schools before even applying to the program. But Google isn’t stopping there. It says it's going to take what it learned from this summer camp and make up a blueprint. Then they will make that blueprint available online for free, so that any school or organization anywhere can run a similar program.
I think that Google is really going above and beyond the call of duty when it comes to enhancing education in the United States. Not only have they offered summer science camp, but they also sponsored a great science competition for kids. If you are interested in giving your kids a leg up on the competition, then prepare them for their future with educational kits which can be turned into winning engineering science projects.
